  • Well that was short-lived

Layla's real name is Roxie, and her dad and sister (a cute black dapple mini, also sans collar) just picked her up. I'm glad she has a loving home to go back to. I hope they are more careful and don't let her wander off again. I like having Mandy to myself again, but I also liked knowing she wasn't lonely while I was at work. Hmmmm.
  • I'm a foster mom!

    Dog mom, that is.
A friend of a friend found a dachshund without a collar yesterday - she works a couple of blocks from me and the dog wandered into her office. So I went over to get her and took her home with me.
She's a very sweet older dog, seems to be housetrained and is very friendly. She curled up on my shoulder and took a nap after we got home. She and Mandy are getting along very well, running around and playing. This morning when I left Mandy was like "Oh, bye." instead of being sad like she usually is, because she was snuggled up with her new friend. :)
I've put an ad on craigslist and I'm going to put one in the paper, and we called the pound in case someone calls them looking for her. I don't think she escaped from home because this is more of an industrial area, not a neighborhood. More likely she was dumped for being old or something. :( I hope not, I hope there is a loving
family just frantic to get her back.
Anyway, in the meantime I'm calling her Layla. I thought I'd continue with the musical names theme, even though I DID NOT name Mandy after that song.

  • How low can you go?

I saw McCain's ad about Obama's record on education today and it turned my stomach. So, because Obama advocated teaching kids (in an age appropriate manner) how to protect themselves from sexual predators, McCain is trying to now turn that around and say Obama is this creepy guy that wants to teach kindergarteners sex ed?  How sick can you get?
This is from the campaign claiming the family values title and playing the pied piper to a majority of evangelicals? Wake up church! We need a new paradigm people. There is so much more at stake here than which side claims the label pro-life. I'm "prolife" but to me that includes being against an unjustified war that has already cost the lives of so many soldiers and civilians. It means caring what happens to the homeless mental patient out on the street because she has no insurance coverage. It means being concerned about the welfare of children who have already been born, especially the thousands in foster care.

I feel like so much time and money has been wasted fighting over Roe vs. Wade in the political arena when it would have been better spent honing in on and eliminating the reasons women proceed with abortions, like finances, cited by three-fourths of the women in this study.

Church, take off your Faux News-colored glasses and take a real hard look at who it is you're cheering for and who it is you're slandering by forwarding those stupid false emails.
